"It is a real ray of sunshine
to have people like yourselves care about my child even
when you don’t have to"

— Cheryl and Carson Smith1

Established in 2002, the SaharaCares Foundation is a community leader that focuses on programs and projects that involve children at risk. These can be children who are disadvantaged, seriously ill and/or from a financially challenged family who otherwise could not participate in typical childhood activities.

The purpose of SaharaCares Foundation is:

To provide public interaction opportunities within the community through specialty functions designed to enhance the lives and childhood memories of children who are disadvantaged, seriously ill, from a financially challenged family or at risk.  This will enrich the hearts, minds, talents and bolster the sense of esteem and wellbeing of the children who are disadvantaged, seriously ill, from a financially challenged family or at risk, as well as the community, whether by direct or indirect participation.

To provide opportunities and functions within the community to make available informational, teaching and educational materials or workshops to family, friends, leaders and teachers of children who are disadvantaged, seriously ill, from a financially challenged family or at risk.

To partner with other nonprofit and governmental organization in fundraising to further the purposes of the Corporation and to create opportunities and functions within the community to improve the lives and childhood memories of children who are disadvantaged, seriously ill, from a financially challenged family or at risk.

To engage, in addition to the above, in any and all activities and pursuits which are substantially similar to the foregoing and which are or may hereafter be authorized by Section 501(c)(3) of the Code.
